The opportunity -Highly Specialist Occupational Therapist

We are seeking an experienced Highly Specialist Occupational Therapist to join an established SEND and inclusion service in Essex, near Basildon.

This is a unique opportunity to move beyond a traditional caseload role and focus on systems leadership, service development and improving outcomes for children and young people with physical, sensory and regulation needs.

The role

You will work closely with mainstream schools and educational settings to develop and embed high-quality, evidence-informed occupational therapy approaches. You will provide specialist advice, consultation, training and support to help create inclusive learning environments.

You will also:

  • Lead and develop targeted OT support across mainstream schools.
  • Provide specialist advice on sensory needs, regulation, accessibility and participation.
  • Lead and support Occupational Therapy Assistants.
  • Develop projects, training and new ways of working.
  • Monitor outcomes and use data to improve the service.
  • Work closely with education, health and SEND professionals.
  • Contribute to service improvement and inclusion initiatives.

About you

You will be a qualified Occupational Therapist with:

  • HCPC registration
  • Significant experience working with children and young people, ideally within educational settings
  • Advanced knowledge of sensory processing, regulation, participation and physical needs
  • Experience of developing whole-school or system-wide approaches
  • Experience of leading projects, pilots or service development initiatives
  • Experience of supervising, mentoring or managing staff and/or students
  • Strong communication and relationship-building skills
  • The ability to work strategically, independently and use evidence and data to evaluate impact
