About the School

Supply Desk is proud to be working in partnership with a specialist SEMH provision in Southampton, dedicated to supporting children and young people with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs.

The school provides a nurturing, structured and highly supportive environment where pupils are encouraged to re-engage with learning, build positive relationships, and develop essential life skills.

The school places a strong emphasis on emotional regulation, restorative practice, and personalised learning approaches to ensure every pupil has the opportunity to succeed.

The Role

We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate SEMH Teaching Assistant to join the team on a full-time, long-term basis from September 2026. You will play a vital role in supporting pupils both inside and outside the classroom, helping them to overcome barriers to learning and achieve their full potential.

This is a highly rewarding role for someone who is patient, resilient, and passionate about supporting young people with additional needs.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide 1:1 and small group support for pupils with SEMH needs

  • Assist the class teacher in delivering engaging and accessible lessons

  • Support pupils in managing behaviour and emotional regulation

  • Build strong, trusting relationships with students to encourage positive engagement

  • Implement behaviour support strategies and personalised learning plans

  • Promote a safe, inclusive and supportive learning environment

  • Work collaboratively with teachers, pastoral staff, and external agencies

The Ideal Candidate
  • Experience working with children or young people with SEMH, SEN, or behavioural needs (preferred but not essential)

  • A calm, patient and resilient approach

  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills

  • Ability to build positive relationships with challenging learners

  • A genuine passion for supporting vulnerable young people

  • A willingness to learn and develop professionally
