Higher Education Network Engineer

Overview
A respected higher education institution in London is seeking an experienced
Network Engineer
to join its IT Services team. You will play a key role in managing, maintaining, and developing the institution’s network infrastructure, ensuring fast, reliable, and secure connectivity for staff, students, and research facilities.Responsibilities
Manage, configure, and support switches, routers, firewalls, and wireless access points.Maintain and optimise network performance, ensuring uptime and reliability.Monitor network health using appropriate tools and respond to incidents promptly.Administer VLANs, routing protocols, VPNs, and firewall rules.Collaborate with security teams to ensure the network meets compliance and protection standards.Support Microsoft and Azure integration from a networking perspective.Participate in network upgrades, expansions, and improvement projects.Demonstrate strong knowledge of networking technologies (TCP/IP, VLANs, routing, switching).Hands-on experience with enterprise-grade networking hardware (Cisco, HP/Aruba, Juniper, or similar).Firewall administration skills (Palo Alto, Fortinet, Cisco ASA, or similar).Experience supporting wireless networks in a large-scale environment.Understanding of network security best practices.Ability to troubleshoot complex network issues effectively.Higher education or public sector experience.Familiarity with Azure networking concepts (ExpressRoute, VPN Gateway, NSGs).Qualifications
Ability to design, configure, and troubleshoot enterprise-grade network infrastructure.Experience with Cisco, HP/Aruba, Juniper or similar hardware and firewall platforms.Strong knowledge of TCP/IP, VLANs, routing, and switching.Experience with Microsoft and Azure networking integration.Excellent collaboration with security, IT operations, and service teams.Offer
