This is a role for someone who genuinely wants to make a difference, but it is not an easy position . Pupils may have significant communication difficulties, complex learning needs, emotional regulation difficulties and challenging behaviours, which can include aggression and behaviours that can be physically demanding to manage . The successful candidate will need to be resilient, patient and nurturing , while also being confident enough to maintain boundaries and remain calm when situations become difficult.
