We are recruiting on behalf of Plymouth City Council for a Waste Operations Driver to support the safe and efficient movement of waste materials across Chelson Meadow and Weston Mill Household Waste Recycling Centres. The Role
As a Waste Operations Driver, you will be responsible for delivering a high-quality waste collection and transportation service, ensuring operations are carried out safely, efficiently, and in line with all relevant regulations.
Key Duties
- Operating a variety of vehicles, including skip vehicles, hook loaders, and articulated vehicles with trailers.
- Collecting, transporting, and disposing of waste materials safely and efficiently.
- Maintaining accurate records of loads moved and ensuring compliance with weight restrictions and environmental regulations.
- Carrying out daily vehicle inspections and reporting any defects.
- Ensuring compliance with Operator Licence requirements, driving regulations, CPC standards, and Working Time Directive rules.
- Delivering excellent customer service when interacting with members of the public and stakeholders.
- Supporting environmental objectives through safe and sustainable waste handling practices.
- Contributing to the smooth running of a critical frontline service for Plymouth City Council.
To be successful in this role, you'll need:
- A valid LGV/HGV licence appropriate to the vehicle type.
- A current Driver CPC qualification.
- A valid Digital Tachograph Card.
- A clean driving licence or no more than 6 penalty points.
- Knowledge of driving regulations and Working Time Directive requirements.
- Strong commitment to health and safety standards.
- Excellent communication and customer service skills.
- The ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- A reliable, flexible approach and willingness to work in a physically demanding environment.
