HGV Waste Collection Driver
Location: Argyll Road, Preston, PR1 6JY

Contract Duration: 3+ Months
Working Hours: Mon – Fri, 09:00 – 17:00, 37 Hours per week

Responsibilities
- Drive heavy goods vehicles for refuse collection and recycling, including skip loaders.
- Supervise a team of labourers and other drivers during operations.
- Operate both automatic and manual refuse collection and recycling equipment.
- Move and empty wheeled bins, food waste caddies, and refuse sacks in all weather conditions.
- Provide domestic, food, bulky item, and trade waste collection services.
- Efficiently collect, sort, and load various recyclable items such as newspapers, magazines, glass, cans, and textiles.
- Distribute leaflets and deliver wheeled bins, storage boxes, and sacks to households.
- Maintain high levels of productivity and engage with the public in a professional and courteous manner.
- Work overtime as needed to complete collection rounds.
- Promote the service actively, including communication with householders.
- Assist with additional cleansing duties and transfer station tasks when necessary.
- Utilize in-cab technology effectively.
- Work on bank holidays, except for Christmas Day, Boxing Day, and New Year's Day, and continue until round completion.
- Ensure the cleanliness and appearance of vehicles and equipment are maintained to a high standard.
- Conduct daily driver safety checks on vehicles and report any defects to Fleet Management Services promptly.
- Adhere to health and safety legislation and regulations, including using reversing assistants.
- Comply with all relevant driving legislation, including the use of tachographs.
- Strong driving skills with experience in operating heavy goods vehicles.
- Ability to supervise and lead a team effectively.
- Proficient in operating refuse collection and recycling equipment.
- Physically fit to handle manual tasks in varying weather conditions.
- Excellent communication skills for interacting with the public and promoting services.
- Flexible to work overtime and on bank holidays as required.
- Detail-oriented to maintain vehicle cleanliness and perform safety checks.
- Knowledgeable of health and safety regulations and driving legislation.
- Proficiency with in-cab technology and equipment.
