HGV Technician – Manchester – £38,000 to £40,000 + Overtime Opportunities
We’re partnering with a well-established business in the commercial waste and recycling industry to find an experienced HGV Technician to join their Manchester-based team. The Role:
- Carry out servicing, inspections, and repairs on a fleet of heavy goods vehicles
- Respond to breakdowns when required, using your initiative to resolve issues quickly and safely
- Prepare and present vehicles for annual MOT and compliance testing
- Take full ownership of your workload to maximise fleet uptime and efficiency
- Perform advanced diagnostics on vehicle systems, including engines, transmissions, and electrics
- Keep detailed maintenance and service records up to date
- Work in line with health and safety guidelines at all times
What You’ll Be Working On:
- Full mechanical servicing and repair of HGVs
- Electrical fault-finding and system diagnostics
- Engine/transmission rebuilds and repairs
- Occasional welding and bodywork maintenance
- Supporting and training apprentices and less experienced team members
- Using diagnostic tools and workshop equipment effectively
- Shift work and occasional overtime, depending on operational demand
What We’re Looking For:
- Qualified HGV Technician (NVQ Level 3 or equivalent)
- Minimum 3 years’ post-apprenticeship experience in HGV servicing and repairs
- Strong technical knowledge with proven diagnostic capabilities
- Organised, self-motivated, and able to work both independently and as part of a team
- Solid communication skills and ability to follow instructions (written, verbal, diagrams)
- Familiarity with waste collection vehicles is a plus, but not essential

Salary: £38,000 – £40,000 per year
