The Opportunity
An exciting opportunity has become available for an experienced HGV Scheduler to join a growing and well-established business operating within the utilities and engineering sector.
The HGV Scheduler will play a key role in ensuring the efficient day-to-day planning, coordination and delivery of HGV operations. You will be responsible for scheduling and coordinating drivers and vehicles, ensuring resources are utilised effectively and works are delivered safely, efficiently, on time and within budget.
This is a hands-on operational role within a highly reactive environment, requiring excellent organisational skills, strong commercial awareness and the ability to respond quickly to changing priorities, emergency call-outs, delays and operational challenges.
This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced HGV Scheduler to take ownership of a busy and varied operational function, using strong planning, communication and problem-solving skills to deliver an efficient and reliable service.
HGV Scheduler Key Responsibilities
- Schedule and coordinate HGV operations, ensuring the efficient use of vehicles, drivers and subcontractors.
- Manage subcontractor availability, communication and performance, acting as a key point of contact.
- Provide real-time support to HGV drivers, assisting with on-site queries, delays and operational issues.
- Monitor daily workloads and adapt schedules in response to emergency call-outs, breakdowns, delays and changing priorities.
- Liaise closely with internal teams to ensure jobs are delivered safely, efficiently and within agreed timescales.
- Ensure drivers and subcontractors have the information and resources required to complete works effectively.
- Oversee jobs from scheduling through to completion, maintaining accurate records and job documentation.
- Ensure all works comply with health and safety requirements, operational procedures and relevant standards.
- Manage competing priorities within a fast-paced, reactive environment while maintaining high levels of service and operational efficiency.
- Monitor job budgets and costs across labour, plant, subcontractors and materials, identifying opportunities to improve efficiency and reduce costs.
- Support accurate job costing, invoicing and commercial reporting, highlighting potential cost issues where required.
- Allocate resources effectively to maximise operational and commercial performance.
Skills & Experience
- Proven experience as an HGV Scheduler, coordinating HGV operations, drivers and vehicles, or within a similar scheduling role. Experience in utilities, waste management, drainage or another fast-paced operational environment would be advantageous.
- Strong knowledge of HGV vehicles and their operational use
- Previous experience working with drivers, subcontractors and field-based teams.
- Excellent organisational skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities within a fast-paced and reactive environment.
- Confident communicator, able to liaise effectively with drivers, subcontractors, clients and internal teams.
- Calm under pressure, with strong problem-solving and decision-making abilities.
- Good understanding of budgets, cost management and commercial awareness.
- Competent IT skills, including experience using scheduling systems and standard office software.
- Ability to think proactively and make quick, practical decisions when operational circumstances change.
