The Role
My client is seeking an experienced UK Health and Safety Lead to manage and oversee all aspects of health and safety across the business. The role will primarily support two UK-based manufacturing and distribution sites, as well as head office functions. This position is based in Stoke-on-Trent, with regular travel to a site in the Lake District.
The successful candidate will be responsible for developing and implementing health and safety policies, carrying out risk assessments, investigating incidents, and ensuring full compliance with relevant legislation and industry standards. You''ll also play a key role in fostering a positive health and safety culture across the organisation, while delivering training and guidance to both the management team and wider UK workforce.
Main Duties
Lead the development and implementation of Health and Safety Management Systems across all UK sitesIdentify and mitigate potential hazards by conducting thorough risk assessments and ensuring appropriate control measures are in placeInvestigate incidents and near misses to determine root causes and implement corrective actions to prevent recurrenceEnsure full compliance with current health, safety, and environmental legislation, as well as industry best practices and internal standardsManage and coordinate all aspects of insurance claims related to health and safety incidentsChampion a positive health and safety culture across the business, promoting awareness, accountability, and continuous improvementDeliver engaging and effective health and safety training, advice, and support to managers and employees at all levelsMonitor, measure, and report on health and safety performance, including KPIs, audit outcomes, and compliance metricsOversee the safe management of contractors and suppliers, ensuring they meet company safety requirements and site protocolsTake ownership of emergency planning and response procedures, including regular reviews and staff briefingsProduce regular reports and strategic updates for the Board and senior leadership team, highlighting key risks, improvements, and initiativesServe as the designated Health and Safety Lead during ethical and social compliance audits, ensuring alignment with industry standardsAct as the principal advisor on all health and safety matters, providing expert guidance to support operational and strategic decision-making
