OverviewJoin to apply for the Health Care Assistant role at NHS. Auckland Surgery seeks a dedicated Health Care Assistant to join our primary care team. This role focuses on supporting preventive healthcare services, while providing essential clinical and administrative support to ensure high-quality patient care within our practice.

Key responsibilities

Take detailed patient medical histories and family health backgrounds

Perform venipuncture and collect blood samples for diagnostic testing

Carry out vital sign monitoring including blood pressure, pulse, and height measurements

Support vaccination programs including seasonal flu immunizations

Maintain accurate clinical records and input data into practice management systems

Perform simple dressing changes

Support the surgery in achieving QOF points, help with long-term condition reviews e.g. diabetic physical checks

Administer B12 injections

Evaluate cardiovascular, diabetes, and kidney disease risk factors using established protocols

Follow current NHS guidelines for health screening procedures

Coordinate follow-up care based on assessment outcomes

Collaborate with clinical staff regarding patient results requiring medical review

Job description and responsibilities

Clinical Responsibilities

Qualifications and experienceEssential

NVQ Level 3 in Health and Social Care/Care Certificate or equivalent

Previous experience working as a Health Care Assistant (HCA) or Health Care Support Worker

Evidence of continuing professional development and education to maintain up-to-date knowledge

Desirable

Foundation degree or Associate Practitioner qualification

Leadership/supervisory training

Training in coaching, motivational interviewing, or care navigation

Experience

Minimum of 2 years experience as a Health Care Assistant

Experience in a primary care, GP surgery, or community health setting

Experience in a multidisciplinary team (MDT)

Experience conducting clinical observations and holistic assessments

Understanding of protocols and clinical guidelines

Ability to manage change and support patients to change lifestyle

Good understanding of clinical governance
