We are currently recruiting for Health Care Assistants/Support Workers to work in a hospital environment that supports supports men and women over the age of 18 from across the UK who are detained under the Mental Health Act 1983 (2007) and who are experiencing severe and complex mental health conditions.

With support from a multi-disciplinary team (MDT), patients are able to work through their mental health conditions in a safe and secure environment. The MDT works closely to offer a range of therapeutic interventions and promote the shortest length of stay that is clinically indicated to support a healthy transition home or to ongoing support in the community.

For this role you will be may be required to work on ICU however there are 3 acute wards for patients who need to step down from a ICU setting or who have complex, severe or prolonged mental health issues but do not require a ICU setting. Patients are either admitted formally or voluntarily.

The hospital setting has several has several therapy rooms and an occupational therapy kitchen to help individuals regain life skills and work towards independent living.

You will deliver direct care in line with individual care plans and support patients with daily living activities and promote independence, choice and dignity at all time. You will be able to build positive professional relationships with patients and support individuals experiencing conditions such as psychosis, depression or personality disorders. Alway maintaining awareness of risk, including serl-harm or absconding behaviours and having the ability to de-escalate challenging behaviours using appropriate techniques.

For this role you will have experience in healthcare, support work or care environment with an understanding of mental health and the ability to remain calm under pressure . Previous experience in mental health or secure settings is advantageous with a knowledge of the Mental Health Act and safeguarding. You will need to be a holder of either Level 2 or Level 3 in Health & Social Care.

This role will require shift work to include weekends and bank holidays, working in a secure mental health environment with the exposure to challenging behaviours and emotionally demanding situations.
