Health and Safety Officer

4 day working week (compressed hours)

This would ideally suit someone with experience with a manufacturing or engineering environment although other relevant sectors would be considered

Day-to-day of the role:
- Conduct regular COSHH assessments and risk assessments with Team Leaders to identify hazards and recommend mitigation measures.
- Develop and maintain health and safety policies and procedures in line with legal and regulatory requirements.
- Engage employees and management in proactive safety initiatives to foster a strong safety culture.
- Stay updated with changes in health and safety legislation and industry best practices.
- Liaise with regulatory bodies and external auditors for inspections and compliance checks.
- Assist in emergency preparedness planning and conduct regular safety drills.
- Oversee safety training programs, ensuring employees are aware of best practices.
- Provide guidance on health and safety training needs and assist in sourcing reputable training providers.
- Conduct site inductions for new starters and workplace inspections.
- Play an active role in the investigation of workplace incidents, preparing reports, and recommending corrective actions.
- Support line managers in implementing corrective measures and follow-ups after incidents.
Required Skills & Qualifications:
- NEBOSH/IOSH certification or equivalent health and safety qualification.
- Proven experience in a health and safety role ideally within manufacturing.
- Strong knowledge of occupational health and safety regulations and best practices.
- Experience conducting risk assessments and accident investigations.
- Excellent communication and training skills.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
- Ability to work collaboratively with various departments and stakeholders.
