Are you an experienced Health & Safety professional looking for an opportunity to lead and develop health and safety across a large, multi-campus organisation?

We’re looking for a Health & Safety Manager to lead the strategic development and operational delivery of our Health & Safety framework across New College Swindon. You’ll play a key role in embedding a strong culture of safety, ensuring legislative compliance and supporting staff, students and visitors across all College campuses.

What you'll do
  • Lead the development and continuous improvement of the College’s Health & Safety framework, policies and procedures.
  • Provide expert advice to Senior Leaders, managers and staff on Health & Safety legislation, risk and compliance.
  • Lead on risk assessments, audits, inspections, investigations and improvement plans.
  • Manage fire safety, emergency procedures, educational visits and work experience Health & Safety.
  • Oversee accident, incident and near-miss reporting, including RIDDOR where required.
  • Develop and deliver Health & Safety training and CPD across the College.
  • Act as Educational Visits Coordinator and Designated Substance Misuse Officer.
  • Lead on asbestos management and support the management of water, electrical and other statutory compliance areas.
  • Provide regular Health & Safety reports and briefings to Senior Leadership, Governors and the Health & Safety Committee.
  • Work collaboratively with Estates, People Operations, curriculum teams and external organisations to promote a safe and healthy environment.
  • Lead on Health & Safety and environmental compliance, supporting the College’s sustainability objectives.
  • Manage and support designated Health & Safety and wellbeing staff and the College’s Health & Safety Champions.
What we're looking for
  • NEBOSH National General Certificate/Diploma in Occupational Health & Safety, or equivalent.
  • Significant experience managing Health & Safety across a complex organisation.
  • Strong knowledge of UK Health & Safety legislation, codes of practice and enforcement requirements.
  • A proven track record of improving Health & Safety performance and embedding positive cultural change.
  • Experience designing and delivering effective Health & Safety training.
  • Experience managing incidents and investigations professionally and effectively.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to influence and advise stakeholders at all levels.
  • Strong organisational, planning and prioritisation skills.
  • A collaborative, proactive and solution-focused approach.
  • Chartered or Graduate Membership of IOSH/NEBOSH would be desirable.
  • Experience within the Further or Higher Education sector would be desirable.
