Health & Safety Officer

I''m recruiting for a Health & Safety Officer to join a growing property and construction organisation. This is a newly created position, reflecting the company''s continued growth and commitment to maintaining the highest standards of health, safety and compliance across its operations.

This is an excellent opportunity for a proactive Health & Safety professional who enjoys being visible within the business, building relationships with site teams and subcontractors, and driving positive safety behaviours.

The Role

Working closely with operational teams, you will be responsible for promoting a strong safety culture across multiple construction and property projects. The position has been created to provide a dedicated Health & Safety presence within the organisation, ensuring compliance standards continue to evolve alongside business growth.

Key responsibilities will include:

• Reviewing and updating existing risk assessments to ensure they remain practical, dynamic and relevant to site activities.
• Conducting regular site inspections and audits across active projects.
• Monitoring subcontractor compliance and ensuring agreed procedures and standards are consistently followed.
• Supporting managers and site teams with practical health and safety advice.
• Investigating incidents, near misses and unsafe behaviours, identifying root causes and implementing corrective actions.
• Assisting with the development and continuous improvement of policies, procedures and safe systems of work.
• Delivering toolbox talks and promoting positive health and safety engagement across the workforce.
• Ensuring legal compliance and supporting the organisation in meeting its health and safety obligations.
• Building strong relationships with employees, contractors and stakeholders to ensure safety remains a core business priority.

About You
To be successful in this role, you will ideally have:

• Experience within the construction, property, housing or related sectors.
• A recognised Health & Safety qualification such as NEBOSH General Certificate.
• A practical and approachable attitude with the confidence to challenge unsafe behaviours when required.
• Experience conducting audits, inspections and risk assessments.
• Strong communication and relationship-building skills.
• A genuine passion for creating safe working environments and supporting continuous improvement.
