Health & Safety Manager - Drylining-

This is more than just a job. It is an opportunity for an experienced Health & Safety professional to take ownership of HSE across a growing construction business and play a key role in shaping its safety culture.

We are partnering with an established drylining subcontractor to appoint a Health & Safety Manager who can bring a practical, hands-on approach to the role while also having the confidence to improve systems, influence senior management and raise standards across the business.

This is a genuinely varied position. You will spend time on site engaging with teams, carrying out inspections and audits, investigating incidents and supporting project teams, while also working closely with the senior leadership team to continually improve the company''s HSE systems and processes.

Why this role stands out:

  • Growing business: You will have responsibility for H&S across the core drylining business and its specialist subsidiaries covering Firestopping, Carpentry and Tiling.
  • Hands-on role: This is not a desk-based compliance position. You will be regularly out on site, working directly with project teams, site management and operatives.
  • Real autonomy: You will be trusted to manage your own workload, identify areas for improvement and implement changes rather than simply maintaining the status quo.
  • Varied workload: From site inspections and audits through to investigations, training, RAMS and management systems, no two days will be the same.
  • Supportive culture: A friendly, family-focused business with an approachable senior leadership team that values its people and understands the importance of flexibility.

What you will be doing:

  • Take day-to-day responsibility for Health & Safety across the business and its construction subsidiaries.
  • Carry out regular site inspections, audits and compliance checks, providing practical advice and support to site teams.
  • Work closely with Project Managers, Contracts Managers and site teams to ensure H&S standards are maintained across projects.
  • Review and improve RAMS, risk assessments, COSHH, inspection processes and other H&S documentation.
  • Lead and support incident, accident and near-miss investigations, ensuring appropriate corrective actions are implemented.
  • Deliver toolbox talks, inductions and H&S training where required.
  • Monitor compliance with current Health & Safety legislation, CDM requirements and client standards.
  • Help maintain and continually improve the company''s ISO 45001 and wider compliance systems, working alongside the Compliance Manager.
  • Support external audits, SSIP requirements and client H&S audits.
  • Identify trends, risks and areas for improvement and work with the leadership team to implement practical solutions.
  • Promote a positive safety culture across the business, ensuring Health & Safety is seen as everyone''s responsibility.
  • Act as a key link between the office, management teams and site workforce.

What you will need:

  • NEBOSH Diploma or NVQ Level 6 in Occupational Health & Safety.
  • IOSH membership, ideally working towards CMIOSH or already holding CMIOSH.
  • Minimum 5 years'' experience in a Health & Safety role within construction.
  • Ideally, experience working for a subcontractor, with drylining, firestopping, fit-out or similar experience highly advantageous.
  • Strong knowledge of construction Health & Safety legislation and practical site safety.
  • Experience carrying out site inspections, audits, investigations and training.
  • Confident communicating with everyone from site operatives through to senior management.
  • A practical, approachable personality with the confidence to challenge when required.
  • The ability to work autonomously, manage your own workload and identify opportunities to improve H&S standards.
  • A genuine passion for Health & Safety and creating a positive safety culture.
