I''m representing a family-run, privately owned business looking for an experienced Head of Transport to join its leadership team.

You''ll take full ownership of the transport operation, leading the transport and driving teams, controlling costs and ensuring a safe, compliant and efficient service.

This role would suit a commercially minded transport leader who sets clear standards, builds strong relationships with drivers and takes responsibility for results.

The role

• Lead and develop the transport and driving teams.
• Set clear expectations and build a culture of accountability and respect.
• Improve driver engagement and retention.
• Own transport performance, costs and service delivery.
• Identify inefficiencies and drive operational improvements.
• Lead planning and resource allocation to reduce empty running and improve utilisation.
• Take responsibility for operator licence compliance, drivers'' hours and transport legislation.
• Use data and KPIs to monitor performance and address issues.
• Lead the transport requirements of new customer onboarding.
• Work closely with customers and internal teams to maintain reliable service.
• Be a visible, approachable leader who deals with issues directly.

What you''ll bring

• Proven experience in a senior transport leadership role.
• Transport Manager CPC qualification, essential.
• Experience holding or supporting operator licence responsibility.
• Strong commercial awareness and a track record of cost control.
• Experience leading planning teams and improving efficiency.
• The confidence to challenge, make decisions and take ownership.
• A leadership style built on trust, clarity and accountability.
• Respect for drivers and an understanding of the realities of the operation.
