About the company

Our client is a well established M&E firm working across multiple industries, including airports, highways, high voltage, hospitals and energy and defence sites. It is in its next phase of growth and is strengthening its HSQE function to support it. People who join this company stay for the long haul. It is looking for a Head of SHEQ to lead that function into its next stage.

  • Run the annual management review
  • Plan and lead internal audits, and manage external audits
  • Keep accreditations in place, including Constructionline, FORS and rail schemes such as RISQS and the Principal Contractor''s Licence
  • Keep risk assessments and method statements current for every type of work
  • Lead incident and close call investigations and the weekly near miss meeting
  • Oversee drug and alcohol testing and fitness for work
  • Manage competence, supplier validation and environmental reporting
  • Bring new sectors into the management system
  • Co-present the quarterly HSQE forum to the whole business
  • Lead and support a Senior HSQE Advisor

  • Advanced or lead internal auditor experience
  • A background in M&E, building services or multi sector construction
  • Strong IT skills

Desirable

  • NEBOSH Diploma or an MSc in health and safety
  • PIEMA, or working towards it
  • Experience of integrated management systems (PAS 99)
  • Rail experience
  • Procore experience

The person

This is a warm, close team that actually likes each other. They talk about safety in a positive way and celebrate good reporting rather than pointing fingers. We are looking for someone who gets stuck in, spots what needs doing before being asked, and can engage and encourage site teams to follow best safety practice, as well as demonstrate health and safety performance and improvements at board level. If you lead with a clipboard and a frown, this is not the job for you. If you bring people with you and are honest when you don''t know something, we would love to hear from you.
