Head of School - Alternative Provision
Wolverhampton, West Midlands | Competitive salary + exceptional benefits

Permanent | Full Time | Start date: ASAP

Do you have the vision, resilience, and leadership skills to make a real difference in the lives of young people?

TimePlan Education is working on behalf of a leading alternative provision provider to recruit an exceptional Head of School. This is a unique opportunity to lead a small, specialist setting where every decision you make will have a direct and lasting impact on pupils, staff, and the wider community.

Why this role is special

This isn''t just about managing a school - it''s about shaping its future. You''ll have the autonomy to inspire, innovate, and deliver excellence, while being supported by a strong senior leadership network. You''ll lead a passionate, close-knit team of teachers and support staff, overseeing both the academic and pastoral journey of approximately 15 pupils, many of whom have faced barriers to learning.

Your role will combine operational leadership, curriculum oversight, safeguarding, and behaviour management - all within an environment that genuinely puts staff and student wellbeing first.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and manage the operational performance of the school, ensuring it is always inspection-ready.

  • Oversee curriculum delivery, pastoral support, and extra-curricular enrichment.

  • Maintain high expectations for staff and students, fostering a positive ethos for learning.

  • Ensure all statutory and safeguarding requirements are met.

  • Drive continuous improvement in teaching, learning, and pupil outcomes.

  • Build strong relationships with parents, carers, and the wider community.

What we''re looking for

  • Qualified Teacher Status (QTS/QTLS) and a degree (NPQH desirable).

  • Proven leadership experience in a school setting (Head of Department, SLT, or Headteacher).

  • Experience working with pupils with additional needs or in alternative provision.

  • Strong understanding of core subjects and the ability to raise attainment.

  • Excellent communication, organisation, and problem-solving skills.

  • A proactive leader who can inspire and support both staff and students.

What''s on offer

This employer goes far beyond the basics to ensure their staff feel valued and supported:

  • Generous holidays and flexible working options where possible.

  • Professional development including funded qualifications (average -3.5k per colleague last year).

  • Wellbeing package - discounted gym memberships, free wellbeing app, mindfulness resources, and counselling.

  • Financial benefits - Medicash health cashback scheme (up to -900 annually), Death in Service cover (4x salary).

  • Family-friendly policies - enhanced maternity/paternity leave and extra leave for foster carers.

  • Recognition & rewards - monthly, quarterly, and annual awards plus -500 referral bonus.

This is your chance to lead a school that truly puts people before paperwork, invests in its staff, and creates a nurturing environment where students can thrive.

Apply today with TimePlan Education and take the next step in your leadership journey.
