The OpportunityWe\u2019re seeking a visionary and strategic leader to take on the role of Head of Public Confidence and Assurance, a pivotal position responsible for holding North Yorkshire Police (NYP) and North Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service (NYFRS) to account. This role is central to ensuring both services deliver on inclusivity, integrity, and public trust.

Reporting to the Director of Police, Fire and Crime (PFC), you will lead the Public Confidence and Assurance (Police, Fire and Crime) function, including independent scrutiny panels, standards, integrity, complaints and compliments, and Deputy Mayor casework.

Additionally, you will:

Lead scrutiny and assurance functions across police and fire services.

Oversee service projects and change initiatives, ensuring performance improvements within time, financial, and risk constraints.

Drive evidence-based approaches to accountability and contribute to the development of the Police and Crime Plan and Fire and Rescue Plan.

Shape and influence the future of public services through shared corporate leadership across the Combined Authority.

Collaborate closely with senior leaders, especially the Head of Partnership and Commissioning, to ensure clarity, consistency, and integration of services.

Oversee the Inclusivity and Public Confidence function, promoting equality, diversity, and human rights compliance.

Build strong, influential relationships with senior stakeholders and act as a trusted adviser.

Champion public sector values with the community at the heart of everything you do.

What you will bring

Proven experience of operating as at a senior management level, making strategic decisions.

A strong understanding of public sector operations and collaborative partnership working.

Proven experience in scrutiny, accountability, and oversight-whether in public, private, voluntary, or government sectors.

A background as a credible, values-driven leader with a passion for public service and community impact.
