OverviewThe post is a senior leadership role within the Department of International Relations, reporting to the Department Manager, with strategic responsibility for the portfolio of taught degrees and short programmes within the Department. They will develop and maintain an operational teaching strategy to deliver a world-class teaching and programme portfolio, reviewing and developing efficient and effective processes to support teaching and learning, and developing and improving the Department’s academic workload model. The role also focuses on delivering a high-quality administration for academic staff, and developing innovative solutions to improve workloads/efficiency. They will ensure the delivery of a consistent and highly professional student experience across programmes/courses, and proactively lead on steps to improve the Department’s service provision to students.

The postholder leads the Programmes team and has direct management responsibility for the Programmes Manager. Working with the Programmes Manager, they will ensure the team delivers a smooth, efficient and timely administration and support of teaching, with high standards of student experience and service delivery.

The postholder will work independently and on their own initiative in a complex and demanding environment. They should have substantial and relevant previous administrative experience in a Higher Education environment and extensive experience of managing and developing teams. They should be able to plan and deliver new initiatives that positively impact the delivery of teaching for students and academic staff. They should be able to take the initiative on new projects, with a solution focused attitude, and have the ability to influence and contribute to decision making.

Responsibilities

Provide strategic and operational leadership for the portfolio of taught degrees and short programmes within the Department of International Relations.

Develop and maintain an operational teaching strategy to deliver a world-class teaching and programme portfolio.

Review and develop efficient and effective processes to support teaching and learning, and improve the Department’s academic workload model.

Lead the Programmes team with direct management responsibility for the Programmes Manager; ensure smooth, efficient, timely administration and support of teaching with high standards of student experience and service delivery.

Ensure delivery of a consistent, highly professional student experience across programmes/courses and drive improvements in the Department’s service provision to students.

Work independently in a complex environment; demonstrate initiative on new projects; influence and contribute to decision making.

Qualifications and Experience

Substantial and relevant administrative experience in a Higher Education environment.

Extensive experience of managing and developing teams.

Ability to plan and deliver new initiatives that positively impact the delivery of teaching for students and academic staff.

Solution-focused attitude and ability to influence and contribute to decision making.
