Head of Operational Safety and Compliance

Location: Derby (Flexible) Hours: Full Time Contract: Permanent Salary: £65,000 - £80,000 + Bonus + Benefits A leading Derby based organisation is seeking a Head of Operational Safety and Compliance to oversee safety governance, operational standards, and compliance across a complex, safety critical environment. This is a leadership role for an experienced operational safety professional who can influence at all levels, shape risk strategy, and ensure the organisation meets industry and legislative requirements. You ll provide authoritative guidance on operational safety, lead assurance programmes, and act as the professional head for operational standards ensuring the Safety Management System (SMS) remains robust, compliant, and reflective of best practice. Responsibilities: Operational Safety Leadership - Provide expert guidance on operational safety, risk validation, and change management. SMS Governance - Act as custodian of operational procedures, ensuring SMS content is accurate, compliant, and updated in line with legislation and industry standards. Audit and Assurance Oversight - Lead operational audits and risk assurance programmes, identifying non compliance and driving corrective actions. Compliance Management - Maintain and update the compliance register, ensuring changes are communicated and embedded across operational teams.
