Head of Health and Safety
Head of Health and Safety
Location: Cox's Lane – Birmingham (UK Multi-Site | Regular travel across our UK locations)
Salary: Competitive
Vacancy Type: Permanent, Full Time
Closing Date: 13th of November 2026
Safety isn’t something we manage from behind a desk. It’s part of how we operate every day.
We’re looking for an experienced Head of Health, Safety to lead health and safety across our UK operations and help us build a strong, practical and proactive Safety First culture.
This is a highly visible, hands-on role. While you’ll set the direction for our UK health and safety strategy and advise senior leaders, you’ll also spend significant time travelling to our sites across the UK, working directly with site leaders, managers and operational teams.
You’ll be comfortable getting out onto the shop floor, into our warehouses and across our operational environments, seeing how work is carried out, identifying risks, coaching teams and making sure the right standards are being applied in practice.
If you enjoy being close to the operation and want the opportunity to genuinely influence how safety is led across a multi-site business, this could be the role for you.
Key Responsibilities
As our Head of Health, Safety & Wellbeing, you will:
- Lead and continuously improve our UK health, safety and wellbeing strategy, aligning it with business priorities, operational performance and legal requirements.
- Act as the senior competent person for health and safety, providing practical advice and constructive challenge to senior leaders, site leaders and managers.
- Maintain a strong presence across our UK sites, regularly visiting our production, warehouse and office locations to understand risks, support teams and drive improvements.
- Champion our Safety First approach and make sure health and safety is embedded into everyday operational decisions and leadership routines.
- Ensure compliance with UK health and safety legislation, including the Health and Safety at Work etc. Act 1974, PUWER, COSHH, DSE, RIDDOR and relevant fire safety requirements.
- Develop and maintain consistent policies, risk assessments, safe systems of work and health and safety standards across our UK operations.
- Coach site leaders, managers, supervisors and safety representatives, building local ownership and accountability rather than safety sitting with one function.
- Lead and oversee incident investigations, root cause analysis and corrective actions, making sure lessons learned are shared across the business.
- Use Evotix and health and safety performance data to spot trends, prioritise action and provide clear reporting to operational and senior leadership teams.
- Lead site audits, inspections and assurance activity, identifying risks and ensuring appropriate controls are implemented.
- Provide practical support across key operational risks, including machinery safety, workplace transport, manual handling, racking, contractors, permits to work, fire safety and emergency preparedness.
- Build effective relationships with regulators, insurers and auditors, including the Health and Safety Executive where required.
- Work with Learning & Development to identify and deliver training and communications that improve health and safety capability across the business.
- Support workplace wellbeing, occupational health, stress risk management and colleague welfare initiatives.
- Make sure health and safety is considered from the outset when we're introducing new equipment, developing sites, changing processes or delivering major projects.
- Continually look for ways to reduce risk, improve standards and create safer workplaces.
Skills, Knowledge & Expertise
- A NEBOSH Diploma or equivalent professional health and safety qualification.
- Strong health and safety leadership experience within a multi-site UK organisation.
- Experience within operational environments such as manufacturing, production, warehousing, logistics, materials handling or industrial operations.
- Strong knowledge of UK health and safety legislation and, importantly, the ability to apply it practically within a busy operational business.
- Experience developing and implementing health and safety strategies, policies, standards and management systems.
