Head of Business Rates

A boutique real estate consultancy with a 10-year track record of success across multiple service lines is now looking to establish a Business Rates division. With highly profitable existing teams and a strong client base already in place, this is a unique opportunity for an experienced leader to build a market-leading service line from scratch.
Role Overview
As Head of Business Rates, you will be responsible for creating and leading the new division. You will shape the strategy, recruit and manage the team, and drive business development to leverage the firm’s established relationships. This is a highly autonomous and senior role for a proven operator who is entrepreneurial and ambitious, with the commercial ability to scale a successful team within a supportive and dynamic consultancy environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Establish and grow a new Business Rates division within the firm
- Define strategy, processes, and service delivery standards for the team
- Leverage existing client relationships across the consultancy’s portfolio to win new instructions
- Recruit, lead, and mentor a specialist Business Rates team as the division grows
- Deliver client work on rating appeals, mitigation strategies, and advisory mandates
- Build long-term client relationships and raise the profile of the division in the market
- Report directly to the board and contribute to wider business strategy
- Proven track record in Business Rates, ideally with experience leading or significantly growing a team
- MRICS or IRRV qualification preferred
- Strong network of clients, landlords, and occupiers within the UK market
- Entrepreneurial mindset, with the ability to set up and lead a division from scratch
- Excellent commercial, negotiation, and leadership skills
- Desire to work in a boutique consultancy environment with direct board-level visibility
- £130,000 base salary + Performance Bonus
