We are a local council based in Farnham, seeking a grounds maintenance operative to support the general upkeep of the open spaces and outdoor facilities. This role is a fantastic opportunity for the right candidate, offering the potential to move from temporary to permanent employment.


The working hours are 8am – 4pm, Saturday & Sundays with a pay rate of £14.59ph plus holiday pay, free parking, uniform & PPE, the use of a company vehicle and pensions scheme after qualifying period.


As the grounds maintenance operative, you would be required to provide reliable weekend support across the public sector client''s parks, open spaces and outdoor facilities. The role involves grounds maintenance, horticultural work, cleaning, litter picking, site opening and security, and supporting events and other outdoor services.


Reporting directly to the Grounds Maintenance Supervisor / Parks and Open Spaces Manager, the key responsibilities are:
• Carry out general grounds’ maintenance, including grass cutting, hedge cutting, weeding, pruning, leaf clearance and other seasonal work.
• Maintain flower beds, displays and containers, including planting, watering, deadheading and weeding.
• Carry out litter picking and empty bins, ensuring public spaces are clean, tidy and welcoming.
• Open, inspect and secure designated parks, public conveniences and other sites, following relevant key, alarm and lone-working procedures.
• Clean public conveniences and other assigned facilities, replenish consumables and report defects, damage, hazards or anti-social behaviour.
• Assist with cemetery, allotment, park and open-space maintenance, including physical cemetery duties where trained and required.
• Support events by setting up and clearing equipment, barriers, bins, furniture and signage.
• Drive authorised vehicles and operate relevant machinery and equipment following appropriate training. Complete routine vehicle and equipment checks and report faults or damage promptly.
• Assist with adverse weather duties, such as gritting, and provide general operational support as required.
• Work safely and responsibly, maintaining clean, tidy and secure work areas. Report maintenance issues and other concerns to the relevant supervisor or duty manager.
• Provide a professional and helpful service to members of the public.
• Comply with relevant policies, procedures, health and safety requirements and management instructions.

To be successful for the role you will ideally have experience of gardening, grounds maintenance, horticulture or other practical outdoor work or experience cleaning public facilities, caretaking, site security or event support however, this is not essential. You will need a full valid UK driving licence and willingness to drive work vehicles. The role is a demanding outdoors role including lifting heavy garden machinery and manual tasks in varied weather conditions. You will need to be reliable and happy working within a team and alone.
