Graduate Structural Engineer
I'm currently working with a well-established structural engineering consultancy based in Hemel Hempstead that is looking to appoint a Graduate Structural Engineer to join its growing team.
With a strong reputation across the residential sector, the business delivers a broad range of projects including bespoke residential properties, large-scale housing developments, apartment schemes, and mixed-use developments for a loyal and expanding client base. The Role
As a Graduate Structural Engineer, you'll work alongside experienced engineers on projects from concept through to completion, gaining hands-on experience across all stages of the design process. You'll receive structured mentoring and support while developing the technical and practical skills needed to build a successful career in structural engineering.
Key responsibilities include:
- Assisting with the design of structural solutions for residential and mixed-use developments
- Producing structural calculations, drawings and technical reports under the guidance of senior engineers
- Supporting the delivery of projects from concept through to construction
- Attending client and design team meetings
- Working closely with architects, contractors and other consultants
- Carrying out site visits and inspections to gain practical construction experience
- Developing your knowledge of UK design standards, engineering software and industry best practice
- Working towards professional accreditation with full Chartership support
Project Portfolio
You'll gain exposure to a variety of schemes including:
- Residential developments
- Housing and apartment schemes
- High-end private residential projects
- Extensions and refurbishments
- Mixed-use developments
- Occasional commercial and education projects
Requirements
- A degree in Civil or Structural Engineering (or due to graduate this year)
- A genuine interest in building structures and structural design
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
- Good communication and organisational skills
- A proactive attitude and willingness to learn
- Experience with structural design software would be beneficial but is not essential
- Ambition to work towards Chartership in the future
