Our Client is an established building services consultancy based in the East Riding of Yorkshire, providing professional mechanical and electrical engineering (MEP) design services across a range of commercial, industrial, residential and public-sector projects.

With the successful outcome of several tendered significant projects, the company is looking to add a talented Junior / Graduate Electrical Design Engineer to join the team. This is an excellent opportunity for a recent graduate or an engineer at the early stages of their career who is looking to develop their technical skills and gain practical experience within a building services environment..

The successful candidate will work alongside experienced Engineers and have the opportunity to become involved in projects from initial concept and design through to construction and completion.

As a Junior / Graduate Electrical Design Engineer, you will support the electrical engineering team in the design and delivery of building services projects.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Assisting with the design of electrical building services systems.
  • Producing electrical design calculations and technical documentation.
  • Assisting with the preparation of electrical drawings, schematics and layouts.
  • Developing knowledge of lighting, small power, containment and distribution systems.
  • Assisting with electrical load assessments and equipment selection.
  • Supporting the preparation of specifications, schedules and reports.
  • Working with Senior Engineers to develop designs from concept through to detailed design.
  • Reviewing drawings and information provided by architects, contractors and other consultants.
  • Attending project meetings and, where appropriate, site visits.
  • Liaising with other members of the design team to coordinate electrical services.
  • Developing an understanding of relevant British Standards, Building Regulations and industry guidance.
  • Supporting senior engineers with site inspections and construction-stage queries.
  • Maintaining accurate project records and documentation.

Qualifications and experience:

  • A degree or HNC/HND in Electrical Engineering, Building Services Engineering or a related discipline.
  • An interest in electrical building services design.
  • Good numerical and analytical skills.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • The ability to work effectively as part of a team.
  • A willingness to learn and develop technically.
  • Excellent attention to detail and an organised approach to work.
  • A basic understanding of electrical engineering principles and building regulations.
  • An interest in developing skills in AutoCAD, Revit and electrical design software.

Previous experience within a building services consultancy is desirable but not essential, and applications from recent graduates are encouraged.
