Governance Risk & Compliance Manager
About the OpportunityAn established and growing organisation operating within the renewable energy sector in West Hull, is seeking an experienced Governance, Risk & Compliance (GRC) Manager to lead and enhance its governance, risk, compliance and sustainability programmes.This is a strategically important leadership role, responsible for ensuring the organisation maintains robust governance frameworks, effective risk management practices and compliance with relevant legal, regulatory, customer and management system requirements.The successful candidate will play a key role in advancing responsible business practices, embedding a strong risk culture and driving continuous improvement across quality, sustainability and operational governance activities.
The RoleReporting into the senior leadership team, the Governance, Risk & Compliance Manager will be responsible for developing and maintaining governance and compliance frameworks that support business growth, operational excellence and customer confidence.The role combines strategic oversight with hands-on implementation and offers the opportunity to influence decision-making across the organisation while contributing to the wider sustainability agenda.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and develop governance, risk and compliance activities across the organisation, ensuring effective policies, controls, frameworks and reporting mechanisms are in place.
- Own and maintain the corporate risk register, ensuring risks, controls, mitigation actions and opportunities are identified, assessed, reviewed and reported effectively.
- Oversee and continually improve the Integrated Management System (IMS), ensuring ongoing compliance with ISO management system requirements including:
- ISO 9001 Quality Management
- ISO 14001 Environmental Management
- ISO 45001 Occupational Health & Safety
- Manage internal and external audit programmes, supporting successful certification and surveillance audits.
- Monitor and report on regulatory compliance, customer requirements, quality performance and emerging risk trends.
- Lead information governance and data protection activities, promoting best practices and compliance with applicable legislation.
- Provide governance, compliance and risk expertise to support commercial bids, tender submissions and contract reviews.
- Drive Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) initiatives, supporting sustainability reporting, employee engagement and external assessments such as EcoVadis, Achilles and other industry accreditation frameworks.
- Deliver training, guidance and awareness programmes to strengthen organisational understanding of governance, risk and compliance responsibilities.
- Lead and develop a small GRC team, fostering collaboration, accountability and continuous improvement.
About YouWe are interested in speaking with professionals from a variety of governance, compliance, risk, sustainability and management systems backgrounds. Experience within renewable energy, engineering, infrastructure or technical services would be advantageous, although candidates from other sectors will also be considered.You will be a pragmatic and commercially aware professional who can translate complex compliance requirements into practical business solutions.
Experience & QualificationsEssential
- Proven experience in governance, risk management, compliance, sustainability or management systems functions.
- Strong understanding of corporate governance principles and risk management frameworks.
- Experience maintaining and improving ISO-based management systems.
- Experience conducting or managing internal audits and supporting external certification audits.
- Knowledge of regulatory compliance and organisational control frameworks.
- Strong stakeholder management skills with the ability to influence and build credibility at all levels.
- Excellent written, verbal and reporting skills.
- Demonstrable ability to manage multiple priorities and drive continuous improvement initiatives.
Desirable
- Experience within renewable energy, engineering, infrastructure, utilities or related sectors.
- Knowledge of ESG frameworks, sustainability reporting or corporate responsibility programmes.
- Experience supporting bids, tenders or customer compliance reviews.
- Understanding of data protection and information governance requirements.
- Degree-level qualification or relevant professional certification.
- ISO Lead Auditor qualification.
- Membership of a recognised professional body relating to governance, compliance, risk or sustainability
