Tattenham Health Centre is a dynamic forward thinking GP practice providing care for around 8000 patients based in Epsom Downs, on the outskirts of the Surrey Hills.Main duties of the job

We are looking for a GP who can work with us for 4-6 sessions per week, to include Mondays, Wednesdays and Thursdays. You are likely to bring a special interest or expertise to the practice for example womens or childrens health, Minor Surgery or GP Training. You will be responsible for a GP list on the days that you work, with full support from the Partners, management and administrative staff.About us

We are:A friendly supportive team, comprising of GPs, Practice Nurses, a HCA and administrative staff; and supported by an ARRS team of Care Co-ordinators, Pharmacists, Paramedics and First Contact Physiotherapists.We are part of Banstead PCN who provide additional services that include, Banstead Integrated Community Service (around home visiting, pro-active care for frailty and long term conditions for the housebound), first contact psychological well-being practitioners, podiatry and a specialist menopause service.High Achieving QOF and Enhanced ServicesA teaching practice, currently with two trainees, and a Trainee Pharmacist.Excellent clinical team (3 GP partners plus Salaried GPs, 2 Practice Nurses, 1 nursing associate and HCA).Committed to continuity of care with a personal list system.Well-developed GP led triage systemConsistent positive feedback from patients, within top 5 for Surrey (2025 patient survey)Job responsibilities

The post-holder will provide generalmedical services managing patients registered with Tattenham practice and dealwith a wide range of health needs in a primary care setting, ensuring thehighest standards of care for all registered and temporary patientsThepractice has a commitment to excellent patient care, quality improvement andteaching. It is expected that all ofour GPs are actively committed to supporting these aims and participate inrelevant activities when appropriate.The postholder will also take part in leading on key disease areas(monitoring trends in treatment and prescribing) and assist in developingappropriate healthcare services for a diverse, patient list (practice basedcommissioning, patient participation and health promotion.Clinical responsibilities:Inaccordance with the practice timetable, as agreed, the post-holder will carry outa variety of duties including daily triage; surgery consultations; telephoneconsultations and queries; visiting patients at home; checking and signingrepeat prescriptions and dealing with queries; managing patient test results,patient medical reports and examinations (e.g. Insurance Companies) on behalfof the Practice; and paperwork and correspondence in a timely manner.Makingprofessional, autonomous decisions in relation to presenting problems, whetherself-referred or referred from other health care workers within theorganisation.Recordingclear and contemporaneous consultation notes to agreed standards using our clinicalsystem (Emis Web)Issuingacute and repeat prescriptions using electronic prescribing wherever feasible.Reviewingcorrespondence from hospital clinics and other professionals, and acting on adviceas neededPrescribingin accordance with locally agreed or national guidelines.Ingeneral the post-holder will be expected to undertake all the normal duties andresponsibilities associated with a GP working within primary care.Teaching and TrainingDeliver the appropriate parts of educationalprogrammes for medical and nursing students.Supervise Foundation Year doctors or GP Registrars placedat the practice as requiredParticipate in the induction of new staff, studentsand other attached professionals as necessary.Participate in appraisal, reviews and educational eventswithin the Practice in order to update skills and knowledge.Ensure mandatory training is kept up to date at alltimesPersonal/ProfessionalDevelopmentIn addition tomaintaining continued education through attendance at any courses and/or studydays necessary to ensure that professional development requirements are met,the post-holder will participate in any training programme implemented by thepractice as part of this employment, such training to include:Participationin an annual individual performance review, annual GP Appraisal includingtaking responsibility for maintaining a record of own personal and/orprofessional development;Takingresponsibility for own development, learning and performance and demonstratingskills and activities to others who are undertaking similar work.Organisationand formal evaluation.Utilise the audit cycle as a means of evaluatingthe quality of work, implementing improvements where required.To participate in quality improvement initiatives,including Significant Event Analysis, peer review and the review of patientcomplaints.To cooperate fully and openly with theinvestigation of patient complaints (or other investigations), includingdrafting responses to complaints as appropriate.To support and work towards the achievement ofnational and local standards (e.g. Quality and Outcomes Framework), and Practicestandards.To participate in clinical initiatives andprogrammes as required.To support the aims and objectives of the Practiceand contribute to the ongoing development of the Practice as required.CommunicationThe post-holder should recognise the importance ofeffective communication within the team and will strive to:Communicateeffectively with other team members to ensure the smooth running of the practiceCommunicateeffectively with patients and carers recognising their needs for alternative methods ofcommunication.Recognizepeoples needs for alternative methods of communication and respondaccordingly.Liaison with members of the Primary Health CareTeam, Hospitals, and other agencies (such as local authority, social servicesand voluntary agencies) in order to assure appropriate care is provided forpatients.Demonstrate sensitive representing patients andcolleagues.Participation in Clinical and Practice DevelopmentMeetings as appropriate.TeamworkWork as an effective and responsible team member,supporting other members of the Act) and the Freedom ofInformation Act and to refer on any queries as appropriate.To follow Practice policy regarding the use ofemail and computer tasks; and the use of the internet as the main source ofinternal and external information.Other responsibilities with thePractice:Maintenance of a tidy and organised work area.Awarenessof and compliance with all relevant practice policies/guidelines, e.g.prescribing, confidentiality, data protection, health and safety, annual QOFAssessment of the Practice.Acommitment to life-long learning and audit to ensure evidence-based bestpractice;Contributingto evaluation/audit and clinical standard setting within the organisation;Attendingtraining, Practice Meetings and events organised by the practice or otheragencies, where appropriate.Meetall tight timescales/deadlines for audits and written returns to ensure thatthe Practice meets quality standards and receives the designated funding (e.g.Quarterly Enhanced Services returns, annual QOF audit etc.)The followinginformation is indicative of current arrangements, but these are subject tochange at the discretion of the Practice. The continuing development of thePractice will influence ongoing changes in work patterns, and some flexibilityis necessary.GPs areexpected to contribute to the working of the Practice in whatever way isnecessary, and some flexibility is required in hours worked.A part timeweek will be made up of 6 clinical sessions (including surgeries,prescriptions, visits, clinics, meetings and administrationSurgeriescontain a mixture of 10-minute face-to-face appointments a mixture of urgentand pre bookable appointments, all GPs are expected to support them in theevent of high demand.It isexpected that the post-holder will take part in all Practice activities.Attempts will be made when time-tabling the rota for the post-holder to workregular days/sessions each week, but this may vary according to holidays andother requirements of the rota, thus some flexibility is essential.Non-NHSServicesThe Practicecarries out most of the usual additional services for its patients and the post-holderwill take part in this. Any income earned in this way will be payable to thePractice. Qualifications

The post-holder should have an interest and enthusiasm in developing their career in primary health care and general practice, in addition to an interest in continuing professional development. Specifically, the appointee will demonstrate the following qualities:A vocationally trained and accredited GP, preferably with MRCGPA good knowledge of and interest in general practice and primary care.Initiative, creativity and motivationProven team worker, able to make and maintain positive working relationships at all levels, and work in a strongly multidisciplinary team environmentAble to take a consultative approach to their work, appropriately involving relevant peopleAn interest in a particular disease area and the willingness to take a leadership role in itA good working knowledge and interest in national primary care strategies and ideas on how to implement these for the development of the Practice.Work flexibly according to the needs of the practice and respond in a flexible way to fluctuations in workload.Demonstrate the ability to focus on long-term strategic goals as well as short-term issues / details.Essential skills and experienceExcellent communication and interpersonal skillsAbility to work as part if a multi-disciplinary teamAbility to work with limited supervisionUnderstanding of the pressures faced by GPs and healthcare teams;Willingness to contribute to and participate in a peer support groupCurrent registration with the GMCAppropriate cover from a recognised medical defence organisationGood levels of IT proficiency and familiarity with primary care clinical systems (the Practice uses EMIS Web, Accurx and Docman). Experience in using the Microsoft suite of programmesProven ability to handle a busy and varied primary care case loadProven ability to offer support within a clinical team and share learning points in Practice meetingsAbility to draft cogent, error-free letters and reports in a timely mannerA good understanding of GMS contracting requirements and the operation of the Quality Outcomes Framework processExperience and an interest in a specific disease area.Disclosure and Barring Service Check
