The Role: Primary Care in a Secure Setting

This position offers a distinct clinical environment, focusing on the delivery of high-quality, patient-centred care to a diverse and often vulnerable population. You will be working within an integrated healthcare team, providing essential medical services that mirror those found in a traditional community GP surgery, but adapted for the secure estate.

Key Clinical Responsibilities

The successful General Practitioner will lead on a variety of clinical workflows, ensuring patient safety and effective healthcare outcomes within the facility:

• Primary Care Consultations: Conducting comprehensive clinics for acute and chronic conditions, including respiratory health, cardiovascular management, and infectious diseases.

• Substance Misuse & Detoxification: Managing patients with complex needs, including drug and alcohol dependency, and overseeing clinical titration and stabilization protocols.

• Mental Health Integration: Working closely with the mental health and well-being teams to provide holistic care for patients with dual diagnoses or neurodiverse needs.

• Emergency Triage & Assessment: Providing rapid clinical assessment for emergency presentations within the secure perimeter.

• Clinical Governance: Adhering to strict NHS England and CQC (Care Quality Commission) standards, ensuring all medical records are maintained with meticulous accuracy on systems such as SystmOne.

Essential Qualifications & Requirements

Due to the nature of the environment, specific compliance criteria are mandatory:

• GMC Registration: Full and current registration with a License to Practise and inclusion on the GP Register.

• Prison Clearance: Mandatory active prison clearance (HMPPS/NOMS/CTC). Due to the lengthy nature of the vetting process, we can only consider candidates who currently hold valid clearance.

• RCGP Membership: Evidence of continued professional development and up-to-date appraisal/revalidation.

• Resilience & Communication: Exceptional communication skills and the ability to work effectively within a multidisciplinary team of nurses, prison officers, and allied health professionals.
