Contract Duration: 1+ Months
Working Hours: Mon – Fri, 09:00 – 17:00, 37 Hours per week
Pay Rate: £ 13.26 per hour

Responsibilities
- Carry out horticultural and grounds maintenance duties to enhance public parks and open spaces within the County Borough.
- Operate under the guidance of a Team Leader or Charge Hand to discuss and execute scheduled work programs.
- Be available to work across various departments within Neighbourhood Services as required, including Waste, Highways, Street Cleansing, or Cemeteries.
- Perform a wide range of gardening duties with minimal supervision, utilizing personal initiative.
- Conduct general grounds maintenance tasks such as grass cutting using pedestrian and ride-on mowers.
- Utilize hand tools like strimmers, hedge cutters, and blowers effectively.
- Mark football fields and perform repairs on fine turf and playing surfaces.
- Engage in litter picking and bin emptying activities.
- Assist the arboricultural team when necessary.
- Drive vehicles and pull trailers, given the appropriate qualifications.
- Engage in soil cultivation, digging, forking, mulching, watering, raking, weeding, litter and debris clearing, edging, pruning, seed sowing, bed preparation, and planting.
- Maintain and cultivate lawns.
- Ensure all tools, garden equipment, and machinery are well-maintained, reporting defects to keep them in safe working order.
- Assist with landscape scheme construction.
- Engage in seasonal bedding, removal, and planting.
- Adhere to Health and Safety legislation to ensure a safe working environment for all.
- Maintain cleanliness and tidiness of vans and tool sheds, ensuring tools are securely stored.
- Employ natural methods for plant protection and pest control, avoiding chemical and pesticide use.
- Participate in necessary training sessions.
- Perform any other duties within other Neighbourhood Services departments as required.
- Qualified to a minimum of Level 2 Town & Guilds or equivalent in a relevant field.
- Able to work independently with minimal supervision.
- Flexible and adaptable to work across different departments as priorities demand.
- Committed to achieving high standards in maintaining the borough’s green spaces.
- Dedicated to contributing towards the achievement of quality accreditation for Green Flag Parks.
- Proficient in using various gardening tools and machinery.
- Knowledgeable in safe working practices and Health and Safety legislation.
- Willing to undergo training and development as required.
