Functional Skills Tutor

The Opportunity

Prospero Teaching work in partnership with Local Authorities, SEND teams, and schools across the UK, providing bespoke educational support to children and young people who are currently out of education for a range of reasons, disengaged from learning, or require additional support to achieve qualifications.

We are currently seeking experienced Functional Skills Tutors to support learners who are not currently able to achieve a pass mark at GCSE level and would benefit from working towards a Functional Skills qualification in Maths and/or English instead.

Tutors will be required to deliver Functional Skills Maths and/or English at Entry Level 3, Level 1, or Level 2, depending on the learner''s baseline assessment and current working level. Many of the learners we support have SEND needs, gaps in education, low confidence, or difficulties engaging within mainstream settings, so we are looking for tutors who are patient, adaptable, and able to build positive, trusting relationships.

Support will take place during the school day and can be offered for up to 15 hours per week. Tutors will also be expected to complete baseline assessments, plan personalised sessions, and support learners towards achieving their Functional Skills qualification.

• Levels: Entry Level 3, Level 1 and Level 2
• Start Date: ASAP
• Duration: Ongoing

Experience, Training and Qualifications:

• QTS, PGCE, Tutor Qualification, or relevant teaching/tutoring experience
• Previous experience teaching Functional Skills Maths and/or English
• Experience supporting learners who are out of education, disengaged, or have SEND
• UK teaching or tutoring experience
• Strong behaviour management and relationship-building skills
• Patient, creative, and flexible approach to learning

To be eligible for this role, the Functional Skills Tutor must:

• Hold the right to work in the UK
• Hold an enhanced child barred list DBS certificate registered with the online update service, or be willing to apply for one
• Provide two professional child-related references covering the last two years
