We are actively seeking managerial professionals with experience in air, sea, and road freight forwarding and aviation shipping for a new role as a Freight General Manager in Birmingham, West Midlands.Our client is investing to expand their freight forwarding services in the Midlands. They are a market leader with offices worldwide, serving large industrial, retail, and FMCG clients with freight solutions across UK and European road, air, and sea freight.Job DescriptionAs a Freight General Manager, you will report directly to the Managing Director and oversee the Birmingham site, including:Managing a team of 30-45 freight specialists responsible for bookings, pricing, quotations, shipping, and customs documentation.Leading a customs and documentation team handling customs clearance, bookings, BLs, pre-alerts, etc.Full PandL responsibility for the branch, including HR development, staff training, appraisals, and team management.Collaborating with the commercial team to create and update rate matrices for carriers, hauliers, shipping lines, airlines, and GSA, aligned with rates, OTIF, and customer requirements.Enhancing customer service relationships to ensure high service levels for a diverse client base.Conducting rate analysis and monitoring operations for efficiency and optimal allocations.The Ideal CandidateThe successful candidate will have extensive experience in freight forwarding, including:At least 5 years in freight forwarding across air, sea, or road.Experience managing teams of 25+ colleagues in freight forwarding, customs, and commercial development.Proven leadership in freight operations involving pricing, quotations, and planning deliveries.Desirable experience managing customs compliance teams.Track record of developing freight forwarding commercial accounts.Ability to commute daily to Birmingham.What’s On Offer?32 days annual leave.Profit-linked uncapped branch bonus.Car allowance between £6k-£8k.Comprehensive benefits package.Private healthcare for family.Opportunities for career progression to senior levels.Seniority level
