A Local Authority is seeking for-an experienced and technically proficient Flood Risk professional with a strong background in flood risk management, sustainable drainage, and the delivery of complex infrastructure projects.

This is a great opportunity for an experienced Flood Risk Engineer-with extensive experience in flood risk management, SuDS, project management, and partnership working, this role offers significant scope to influence strategy, deliver meaningful environmental improvements, and lead projects that enhance flood resilience and community wellbeing across the borough.

Day to day responsibilities:

  • Lead and deliver the Council''s statutory duties as the Lead Local Flood Authority (LLFA) under the Flood Risk Regulations, Flood and Water Management Act, and Reservoir Safety legislation.
  • Develop, implement, and review the Borough''s Flood Risk Management Strategy, policies, and programmes to reduce flood risk and improve climate resilience.
  • Act as the Council''s technical lead for flood risk and sustainable drainage (SuDS), providing specialist advice on planning applications, flood mitigation, drainage, and water management.
  • Manage the safety, compliance, inspections, and emergency planning requirements for Wimbledon Park Lake reservoir in accordance with the Reservoirs Act.
  • Lead the identification, design, funding, and delivery of flood risk management and drainage infrastructure projects, ensuring successful outcomes within budget and programme.
  • Secure external funding through the preparation of business cases, grant applications, and bids to Government, Environment Agency, and other funding bodies.
  • Develop and maintain robust flood risk data, GIS mapping systems, and asset registers, supporting evidence-based decision making and statutory investigations.

Desired Skills:

  • Extensive knowledge of flood risk management, sustainable drainage systems (SuDS), and relevant legislation.

  • Proven ability to lead and deliver complex flood risk and infrastructure projects from concept through to completion.

  • Strong stakeholder management and partnership-building skills, with experience working across local authorities, agencies, and communities.

  • Expertise in GIS, flood modelling, data analysis, and evidence-based decision making to support flood risk strategies.

  • Excellent communication and report-writing skills, with the ability to present complex technical information to senior leaders, councillors, and external stakeholders.
