Leading flood risk, hydrology and water environment consultancy from Bradford-on-Avon, near Bath, with flexible hybrid / work-from-home (WFH) arrangements available.

You’ll join a highly regarded specialist environmental consultancy delivering sustainable solutions across development, infrastructure, utilities, renewables, government, defence and other major sectors.

This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced Flood Risk Consultant / Principal Flood Risk Consultant / Hydrologist / Water Environment Consultant who wants more than simply delivering technical reports. You’ll have genuine ownership of clients and projects, influence the development of the water environment capability and lead a talented specialist team.

The Flood Risk Consultant job itself, where you will act as a senior client-facing technical lead, taking ownership of water environment projects from initial scope through to successful delivery. More specifically:

• Leading Flood Risk Assessments (FRA), hydrological assessments and flood risk modelling
• Delivering drainage strategies, SuDS design, WFD assessments and ES chapters
• Supporting water quality, sediment quality, water resources and resilience projects
• Leading Flood Risk Activity Permit (FRAP) and wider environmental permitting work
• Providing technical input into flood preparedness strategies
• Managing project scope, fees, programmes, resources, risk, quality and profitability
• Leading client meetings, workshops, pre-application discussions and technical reviews
• Liaising confidently with planning authorities, regulators and statutory consultees
• Coordinating multidisciplinary project teams and specialist sub-consultants
• Providing pragmatic advice around planning, consenting, environmental risk and mitigation
• Managing and developing the in-house environment team
• Supporting proposals, tenders, repeat business and key client accounts
• Helping shape and grow the consultancy’s wider water environment and flood risk capability

This is a hands-on senior consultancy position where you can combine technical expertise with project leadership, client management and team development.

To be successful as Flood Risk Consultant / Principal Flood Risk Consultant, you will ideally have:

• Strong professional experience within flood risk, hydrology or water environment consultancy
• A relevant degree or postgraduate qualification
• Experience delivering hydrological and flood risk elements of multidisciplinary projects
• Knowledge of Flood Risk Assessments, drainage/SuDS and associated planning requirements
• Strong client-facing and stakeholder-management skills
• Experience managing projects, budgets, programmes and technical deliverables
• The ability to lead, support and develop other consultants
• Excellent written reporting and communication skills
• Sound commercial judgement and a pragmatic approach to environmental risk
• Chartered status such as CWEM or similar would be advantageous

You may currently be working as a Flood Risk Consultant, Principal Flood Risk Consultant, Principal Hydrologist, Hydrology Consultant, Water Environment Consultant, Flood Risk Specialist or Water Resources Consultant.
