The Role
We are looking for a Fleet Driver Trainer & Coach to support the ongoing development, safety and performance of drivers across our fleet.
This role focuses on improving the competency, confidence and overall driving standards of new, existing and high-risk drivers through structured coaching, practical assessments, ride-alongs, targeted training and performance monitoring. You will play an important part in reducing road traffic collisions, at-fault incidents, insurance claims, unsafe driving behaviours, vehicle damage and associated fleet costs.
Responsibilities & Requirements
- Carry out driving assessments for new starters and periodic reassessments of existing drivers
- Deliver 1-to-1 coaching sessions for high-risk or underperforming drivers
- Undertake targeted assessments following RTCs, near misses, complaints, telematics alerts or vehicle damage
- Complete on-road driver evaluations, ride-alongs and practical assessments
- Identify unsafe behaviours, driver weaknesses and training needs
- Produce individual driver improvement plans and monitor progress
- Deliver refresher training, post-incident retraining, toolbox talks and behavioural improvement sessions
- Provide technical coaching on hazard awareness, observation, anticipation, speed control, safe manoeuvring, reversing and defensive driving
- Review telematics reports, dashcam footage, driver scorecards, incident records and customer feedback to identify trends
- Support post-incident driver debriefs and feed lessons learned into future training and safety communications
- Maintain accurate records of driver assessments, coaching and training
- Report on driver improvement activity, progress and outcomes
- Escalate persistent non-improvement or serious concerns to management
- Support fleet safety standards, safe systems of work and road risk reduction objectives
- Promote a positive, proactive driver safety culture across the business

- Able to challenge unsafe behaviours in a firm but supportive manner
- Highly observant with strong assessment and feedback skills
- Organised and disciplined with accurate record-keeping ability
- Able to work closely with operational teams, fleet teams and management
Technical Skills & Experience
- Experience in driver coaching, driver training, fleet safety, road safety or transport operations
- Strong knowledge of safe driving techniques and behaviour improvement
- Experience conducting driver assessments, coaching sessions and practical evaluations
- Familiar with telematics, dashcam analysis, driver scorecards and fleet systems
- Relevant backgrounds include ex-traffic police, DVSA, enforcement, military transport or fleet risk management
Qualifications & Training
- Full UK driving licence (essential), ideally Cat 2
- Advanced driver, assessor or trainer qualification (desirable)
- CPC Transport Manager and/or FORS knowledge (preferred but not essential)
