Location: RSPB UKHQ - The Lodge, Sandy, SG19 2DL
Salary: £33,027.00 - £35,259.00 Per Annum
Benefits: Pension Scheme, Life Assurance, 26 days annual leave
Duration: 2 year Fixed Term contract
Hours: Full -Time, 37.5 hours per week

What's the role about?

Your role as Finance Systems Developer will be in the skilled Finance Systems Team providing specialist expertise to support our current finance systems, key business users and liaising with other digital and IT teams within the organisation.

Your role will be to gather and analyse functional and non-functional requirements, from business analyst/requirement documentation/business advisor, as appropriate, to enable the design of a solution to meet the business need. Producing detailed designs including for example: physical data flows, class diagrams, file layouts, common routines and utilities, program specifications or prototypes, and backup, recovery and restart procedures to achieve a well-engineered result to meet the business requirement.

Essential skills, knowledge and experience:

  • Ability to demonstrate the competencies required to undertake the duties associated with this level of post having acquired the necessary knowledge and skills in a similar role.
  • Initiative and judgement to resolve problems independently and/or through a support team, with a depth or breadth of knowledge in systems development.
  • Understanding of relevant legal requirements, organisational policies and procedures relative to the role, and the quality outputs and standards required.
  • Detailed knowledge and experience of specialist software, best practices and methodologies relevant to the role. Expertise with relevant software packages, such as Open Accounts, eBis, IBM Cognos/PAFE.
  • Ability to demonstrate an understanding of the operational requirements, including conceptualising and interpreting service.
  • Strong people management skills and the ability to work collaboratively with peers and colleagues.
  • Ability to influence others and explain / discuss concepts and ideas.
  • Experience of and ability to understand, conceptualise and interpret the technical requirements of staff, volunteers and other stakeholders.
  • Experience of working independently and resolving unforeseen issues and challenges.
  • Experience of planning and progressing work activities within industry guidelines or organisational policy, occasionally applying initiative and independent judgement.

Desirable skills, knowledge and experience:

  • HTML (Hyper Text Markup Language) - The standard markup language for Web pages (eBis is web based).
  • CSS (Cascading Style Sheets)- A stylesheet language used to describe the presentation of a document written in HTML.
  • JavaScript - The Programming Language for the Web which can update and change both HTML and CSS.
  • Microsoft Excel and Word.
  • VB (Visual Basic) - The Programming Language for Microsoft Products.
  • Creation and Management of Financial Reports and a basic understanding of double entry bookkeeping.
  • Analytical Skills.
