As we embark on the next exciting phase of the Council’s transformation programme, we are looking for a suitably experienced technical accountant to take us on to the next level of our journey supporting the new corporate financial management model that has been implemented throughout the organisation.
Having substantial technical experience of Local Government accounting, your role will be to support the Technical Finance Team in managing the financial affairs of the Council, including the production of the Council’s financial statements and subsequent external audit process. You will undertake the completion of statutory returns, both revenue and capital, whilst maintaining the integrity of the chart of accounts. Managing a small team, you will play a pivotal role in developing the Council’s Capital Programme and Strategy whilst overseeing the monitoring of the programme. As we embark on a project to migrate to a new ledger this role will be integral to the project and to enabling accurate reporting processes across the Finance service both during implementation and in the future. This is a varied and exciting role for a technical accountant looking for a new challenge.
Responsibilities
Support the Technical Finance Team in managing the Council’s financial affairs, including production of financial statements and external audit processes.
Complete statutory returns (revenue and capital) while maintaining the integrity of the chart of accounts.
Manage and develop a small team.
Develop the Council’s Capital Programme and Strategy and monitor the programme.
Play a key role in the migration to a new ledger, enabling accurate reporting across the Finance service during implementation and beyond.
Qualifications and Experience
Substantial technical experience of Local Government accounting.
Experience in production of financial statements and coordination of external audit.
Ability to manage a small team and contribute to capital programme development and monitoring.
