Birmingham (Office Based - Full-Time)
Permanent | £30K-35K
 
A growing and friendly SME is seeking a Finance Assistant to join its close-knit team. This is an excellent opportunity for someone looking to develop their finance career within a collaborative environment, gaining exposure across a broad range of finance processes.
 
What will you be doing in your new role?

You will support the day-to-day running of the finance function, taking ownership of key transactional duties while also assisting with general administrative tasks as required within a small business setting.

  • Recording day-to-day financial transactions and maintaining accurate records using cloud-based accounting systems, including Xero and supporting tools
  • Reviewing, coding, and inputting supplier invoices to ensure timely and precise processing
  • Managing outstanding receivables by producing customer statements and proactively following up on overdue accounts
  • Processing employee expense submissions and ensuring they comply with company guidelines
  • Reconciling supplier communications, including checking remittance advice and resolving any discrepancies
  • Acting as a key contact for finance-related queries across the business as well as with external stakeholders
  • Assisting in the preparation of schedules and reports to support regular supplier payment cycles
  • Providing support with indirect tax processes, including assisting with VAT preparation activities
  • Contributing to ongoing monitoring of debtor balances and assisting with internal financial reporting processes
  • Maintaining the accuracy and integrity of financial data across systems
  • Supporting the wider team with general administrative tasks in line with the needs of a smaller business environment
What we are looking for?
  • Experience working within a small to medium-sized business, with a broad understanding of finance operations
  • Previous exposure to credit control and invoice processing
  • AAT qualified or currently studying (desirable)
  • Experience using Xero (preferred but not essential)
  • A proactive, hands-on attitude with a willingness to support across both finance and general office duties
  • Keen to learn, develop, and grow within a supportive environment
