Field Service Engineer
Field Service Engineer
Area: Derbyshire with UK-wide travel
Salary: £40,000 to £48,000 depending on experience plus company vehicle
Hours 40 per week
Inspire Resourcing Ltd have an exciting chance to join a well established and growing engineering business as a Field Service Engineer, based from the Chesterfield office. You will support customers across the UK, working with high quality specialist machinery. Rather than manufacturing equipment, you will be at the forefront of customer support, delivering installation, servicing, maintenance, and spare parts assistance.
The role offers real variety, from working on compact bench units through to larger automated systems. It is primarily focused on electronics, with some light mechanical involvement. If you enjoy problem solving, independence, and travel, this position offers a rewarding and engaging career path.
The Duties:
You will play a key role in ensuring customers receive excellent service and reliable equipment performance. Your responsibilities will include installing, servicing, repairing, and maintaining machinery at customer sites across the UK and Northern Ireland. You will diagnose electrical and electronic faults as well as carry out light mechanical troubleshooting.
You will perform both planned and reactive maintenance, support customers with spare parts and technical queries, and help optimise machine performance. You will complete service documentation and reports, and work closely with engineering teams based in Chesterfield and South London.
The role also includes occasional overseas training, typically once per year, giving you the opportunity to develop your skills further. You will manage your own schedule, including overnight stays when required, with around one day each week spent at the Chesterfield office to reset, restock, and complete administrative tasks.
The ideal candidate:
You will bring a strong background in electronics along with a basic understanding of mechanical systems such as gears, bearings, and moving parts. Experience in machinery installation, maintenance, or field service will be highly beneficial.
You will be confident in diagnosing and resolving technical issues, able to work independently, and ready to make an immediate impact. A willingness to travel regularly across the UK, including Wales, Scotland, and Northern Ireland, is essential. You should also live within a reasonable commuting distance of Chesterfield.
Full training will be provided, so previous experience in this specific industry is not required.
What Is Offered
You will receive a competitive basic salary between 40000 and 48000 depending on experience, along with a company vehicle. The role offers varied and interesting work across the UK, supported by experienced engineering teams.
You will have access to occasional overseas training opportunities and be part of a stable and growing business that offers excellent long term career prospects.
Travel and Working Pattern
The role involves a mix of local and national travel. Some weeks may include several overnight stays, while others may be fully local. There will also be opportunities to collaborate with the South London team on larger installation projects.
This is a fantastic opportunity for a motivated engineer who thrives on variety, autonomy, and delivering high quality technical support.
