Extrusion Operator / Setter
Location: Manchester
Salary: -36,000 - -40,000 (DOE)
Shifts: 4 on / 4 off rotational - 6am-6pm / 6pm-6am
Our client, a long-established and respected manufacturer based in Manchester, is seeking an experienced Extrusion Operator/Setter to join their production team. The Role
Reporting to the Shift Supervisor / Production Manager, the Extrusion Operator / Setter will be responsible for the safe, efficient, and high-quality operation of extrusion lines. This position requires strong technical knowledge, the ability to troubleshoot, and a proactive approach to maintaining production performance.
You will be expected to take ownership of your line, minimise downtime, and work collaboratively with the wider team to ensure that output targets and quality standards are consistently achieved.
Key Responsibilities
- Operate, monitor, and maintain extrusion lines under optimum conditions
- Carry out tooling changeovers, machine start-ups, shutdowns, and cleaning of barrels and screws
- Troubleshoot and resolve production or quality issues efficiently
- Produce high-quality extruded products in line with specifications
- Conduct and record quality checks throughout the shift
- Complete accurate end-of-shift handovers
- Move raw materials and finished products safely using forklift/manual handling
- Support extrusion trials and process improvements (Grades 4 & 5)
- Minimise scrap levels and contribute to continuous improvement
- Maintain housekeeping standards in line with 5S
- Ensure compliance with operating procedures, health and safety regulations, and company policies

Knowledge, Skills and Experience
- Proven experience in profile extrusion is essential
- Strong technical understanding of plastics and extrusion processes
- Ability to work to production deadlines and priorities
- Good knowledge of Health and Safety in a manufacturing environment
- Evidence of efficiency improvements or process optimisation desirable
