Exhibition Engagement Assistant

Opportunity Overview
One of my local government clients are currently seeking a freelance Exhibition Engagement Assistant to support the development of educational and engagement content for a major heritage exhibition celebrating the 150th anniversary of the Cambridge Corn Exchange.
This role forms part of a National Lottery Heritage Fund-supported project that will culminate in a new public exhibition to be launched in February 2026. The successful candidate will collaborate with the project team, including a heritage researcher, to create accessible, high-quality learning materials for schools and community audiences.
Key Responsibilities

Assist in the development of learning and engagement resources for schools, families, and the wider public.

Contribute to the creation of interpretive content for the physical and digital exhibitions.

Work collaboratively with the heritage researcher and education leads to ensure that content is accurate, inclusive, and engaging.

Provide input on content presentation to suit a range of audiences, with a particular focus on educational and community engagement.

Attend occasional in-person planning sessions at the Cambridge Corn Exchange offices.
Person Specification
Essential:

Proven experience in heritage education, museum learning, or public engagement roles.

Strong communication and writing skills, particularly in developing accessible educational materials.

Ability to work independently, manage time effectively, and meet project deadlines.

Experience working with schools, community groups, or public audiences.
Desirable:

Knowledge of heritage interpretation methods and inclusive learning practices.

Familiarity with Cambridge’s cultural or historical landscape.
Working Arrangements

The role offers flexibility in terms of working days and schedule. The 14 days of work may be distributed evenly or in clusters, as agreed with the project team.

The majority of the work can be completed remotely, with occasional on-site collaboration.
