Estimator

PSR Solutions are working with a market leading contractor within the Civil Engineering Sector to recruit an Estimator to Join their Pre-Construction team on a permanent basis. This role will be based in the Derby. The client specialises within Demolition, Earthworks, Civils and Groundworks.

Estimator Roles and Responsibilities

• Lead the estimating function for civil engineering and groundworks projects.
• Review tender documentation, drawings, and specifications to fully understand project requirements.
• Prepare detailed cost estimates including materials, plant, labour, subcontractors, and preliminaries.
• Identify and evaluate project risks, opportunities, and value engineering options.
• Manage and coordinate subcontractor and supplier enquiries, ensuring competitive quotations are obtained.
• Lead tender adjudication meetings, presenting costs, risks, and commercial considerations to senior management.
• Support bid submissions with written methodology, programme input, and supporting documentation.
• Liaise with clients, consultants, and supply chain partners during pre- and post-tender negotiations.
• Ensure all estimating activities are carried out in compliance with company procedures.
• Support handover to operations teams on successful tenders, ensuring clarity of scope, risks, and assumptions.
• Mentor and support junior estimators within the department.

Estimator Requirements

• Proven experience in estimating within civil engineering/groundworks, ideally with a Tier 1 or strong Tier 2 contractor.
• Strong technical knowledge of groundworks, highways, drainage, utilities, earthworks, infrastructure & commercial projects.
• Excellent understanding of construction methods, sequencing, and programming.
• Proficient in estimating software and Microsoft Excel.
• Strong commercial acumen with the ability to identify cost risks and opportunities.
• Ability to interpret complex tender documentation and specifications.
• Strong negotiation and communication skills with clients, supply chain, and internal stakeholders.
• Ability to manage multiple tenders simultaneously and work to deadlines.
• Leadership skills with the ability to mentor junior staff.
• Experience pricing main contract works would be advantageous but not essential.
