Commercial Estimator

An established infrastructure contractor is seeking a commercially minded Estimator to help win and deliver work across utilities, civil engineering and reinstatement. The role blends estimating expertise with proactive business development, managing the journey from early lead to tender submission, and providing robust commercial oversight through to project close out.

The role, at a glance

• Identify and pursue new opportunities beyond the existing client base, building strong relationships with prospective customers, consultants and partners.
• Lead the pricing and submission of tenders, maintain a win and loss tracker, capture lessons learned and deliver clear tender handovers to operations.
• Carry out site visits to assess scope, risks and delivery constraints, engaging early with clients and subcontractors.
• Develop estimating tools and strategies to improve pricing accuracy and manage risk.
• Source, evaluate and engage a reliable supply chain to secure competitive quotations and capability for bids.
• Provide commercial and financial reporting, including timely invoicing, weekly and monthly CVR and profit statements, cashflow forecasting and variance analysis with narrative. Ensure variations are agreed promptly.
• Support contract managers and junior commercial staff with day to day commercial tasks.
• Champion safety and environmental standards, follow safe systems of work and PPE requirements, and uphold high levels of customer service, professionalism and productivity.

About you

• Proven estimating experience within groundworks, utilities or civil engineering, with a track record of winning new business and opening new workstreams.
• Strong commercial acumen, confident with CVR production and cashflow management.
• Excellent relationship building and negotiation skills with clients, consultants and subcontractors. Able to work under pressure and to tight deadlines with effective prioritisation and organisation.
• Proficient with Microsoft Excel and Outlook, with experience of work management systems and data reporting.
• GCSE English and Maths or equivalent. A quantity surveying course or equivalent experience is welcomed. A valid UK driving licence is required.
• Proactive, ambitious and detail focused, with a positive approach and the ability to work both collaboratively and independently.
