Your new role
Our client is seeking an experienced Estimator to play a key role in their pre-construction team. You will be responsible for producing accurate, competitive, and profitable tenders for surfacing, civils, and associated infrastructure projects, ensuring all bids are fully compliant with client specifications and company procedures. This is a pivotal position for an ambitious professional looking to join a well-established business with exciting growth plans.
Responsibilities will include:
Reviewing tender documents, drawings, and specifications to prepare accurate cost estimates
Conducting detailed take-offs and quantity measurements for materials, labour, and equipment
Liaising with suppliers and subcontractors to obtain competitive quotations
Preparing bills of quantities and pricing schedules in line with industry standards
Evaluating risks, value engineering opportunities, and alternative solutions to enhance tender submissions
Preparing and submitting tenders within required deadlines
Working closely with project managers and directors to ensure handover of successful bids is smooth and well-documented
Maintaining and developing relationships with clients, consultants, and supply chain partners
Staying updated on market trends, material prices, and industry regulations
What you will need to succeed:
Proven experience as an Estimator within the civil engineering or road surfacing sector (essential)
Strong understanding of highways, tarmac, and asphalt surfacing projects
Proficiency in estimating software and MS Office (Excel essential)
Excellent numerical skills with strong attention to detail
Ability to interpret technical drawings and specifications
Strong commercial awareness and negotiation skills
Effective communication skills and ability to work as part of a team
Full UK driving licence and willingness to attend site visits as required
