MAIN PURPOSE OF JOBWe are looking for an experienced Environmental Protection Officer to develop policies and deal with planning applicationsThe successful candidate will have recent experience of working in air quality andLocal Air Pollution PreventionThey will also be able to demonstrate partnership working with DEFRA, and with Part IIa issues.Local Air Quality ManagementContaminated landPrivate Water SuppliesPrepare reports as necessary and take such action as appropriate having regard to the corporate enforcement policy; and Serve Notices, where necessary.Implement performance management systems to ensure accurate monitoring of the work of the service.Lead on engagement with local communities and other stakeholders to build sound and productive working relationships.Develop Service Plans, risk registers, policies, procedures and update risk assessments by working within the relevant legislation ensuring the Council’s compliance by keeping up to date with legislation and ensuring that change is implemented so that investigations are not lost due to due process.PERSON SPECIFICATIONQualificationsDegree in an Environmental Sciences related subject (or equivalent)Recognised management qualification (ILM or similar/equivalent)KnowledgeAt least two years working in the relevant discipline appropriate to the role.Demonstrable ability to use advanced theoretical, practical and procedural knowledge across a specialist areas and has detailed knowledge of organisational policies, practices or procedures.Excellent working knowledge of the legislation, statutory guidance, circulars and technical literature relevant to the services provided by the department/service.Experience of using computer equipment for the maintenance of investigation case records.At least three years demonstrable management experience, leading a team.Previous experience of working for a local government environment in a small team.Experience of liaison with external agencies to facilitate joint workingExperienceProven experience in strategy development and implementationExtensive demonstrable experience working in Strategic and Proactive Environmental Protection.Demonstrable ability to use advanced theoretical, practical and procedural knowledge across Environmental Protection and has detailed knowledge of organisational policies, practices or procedures.Can evidence extended previous formal training, to graduate or professional qualification level, or equivalent, plus experience in relevant areas of work.Excellent working knowledge of the legislation, statutory guidance, circulars and technical literature relevant to the services provided by the department/service.Previous experience of working in a local government setting in a position involving exposure to the public and regular contact with senior officers.Sound political awareness and ability to communicate with a range of audiences.range of different activities.or behaviour place emotional demands on the jobholder.
