Role Overview

The Workshop Manager plays a vital leadership role in the planning, coordination and oversight of all workshop production. You will ensure that every project is broken down into components and delivered on time and to specification. The role bridges production planning, quality assurance and communication with internal teams and clients, while overseeing the workshop''s health, safety, and efficiency.

Key Responsibilities:

Planning & Project Coordination

  • Interpret AutoCAD and traditional drawings to create structured production schedules.
  • Break down projects into components, sequencing tasks and assigning timeframes.
  • Coordinate with design, commercial and site teams to ensure accurate production and lead times.

Team Oversight & Resource Management

  • Collaborate with the Workshop Foreman to assign daily tasks and manage workforce planning.
  • Monitor team capacity and output, and identify training needs to support staff development.

Quality Control & Client Liaison

  • Ensure workshop output aligns with required quality standards and specifications.
  • Liaise with clients, project managers and the design team to clarify technical details or address programme changes.
  • Lead internal production meetings to track project progress.

Health & Safety & Compliance

  • Maintain workshop Health & Safety procedures, ensuring legal and company standards are met.
  • Oversee safe working practices, tool/machinery use, and documentation.

Material Planning & Supplier Liaison

  • Forecast and coordinate material and stock requirements.
  • Maintain relationships with key suppliers of specialist plaster materials and moulding components.

Performance Monitoring & Improvements

  • Track workshop metrics including productivity, wastage, and quality issues.
  • Recommend and implement workflow improvements and equipment upgrades.
  • To assist in estimating via proven production records

Candidate Requirements:

  • Proven experience in a production, manufacturing or workshop management role (ideally within within the construction or a related artisan industry).
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD, with the ability to interpret and work from technical drawings.
  • Strong organisational, planning and leadership skills.
  • Clear and confident communicator with a collaborative approach to working across departments.
  • Sound working knowledge of Health & Safety within a workshop environment.
  • An engineering qualification (mechanical, production, or manufacturing) is desirable, but not essential, particularly where relevant to materials, processes, CNC, or structural coordination.
