Engineering Manager: Major Infrastructure Programme

We are recruiting an experienced Engineering Manager to join a Tier 1 contractor delivering a major, long-term infrastructure programme in Cumbria.

This is a significant design and build programme involving the upgrade and renewal of approximately 1,000 existing assets across road, rail, bridges and associated civil infrastructure.

The Engineering Manager will provide engineering leadership across the programme, working closely with the construction team and taking responsibility for the management and technical assurance of design delivered by external design consultancies.

Responsibilities

• Lead the engineering function across allocated projects and work packages
• Manage external design consultancies through the design and delivery process
• Provide technical leadership and engineering assurance
• Ensure designs are coordinated with construction requirements and programme delivery
• Oversee design reviews, technical approvals and engineering documentation
• Manage engineering risks and ensure compliance with relevant standards and procedures
• Work closely with project, commercial and construction teams
• Support projects through design, construction, commissioning and handover
• Drive value engineering and practical, buildable design solutions

Requirements

• Civil engineering background
• Degree in Civil Engineering or equivalent
• Incorporated Engineer or Chartered Engineer status is essential
• Engineering management experience within major construction or infrastructure projects
• Experience managing external design consultancies
• Experience within a design and build environment
• Understanding of construction methodology and the interface between design and delivery
• Commercially aware with the ability to manage engineering and design requirements within programme and cost constraints
• Tier 1 contractor or major infrastructure experience preferred
