Engineering Manager (Data Engineering)

Overview
MCS Group is seeking an experienced Engineering Manager to lead a newly established Data Engineering team based in Belfast. Joining one of the most interesting companies to set up in Northern Ireland in recent years, this fledgling, growing team is responsible for developing a next-generation data platform that will deliver advanced business intelligence, AI/ML, and generative AI capabilities, leveraging large-scale proprietary datasets utilised by some of world''s largest organisations.In this role, the Engineering Manager will lead and mentor a team of data engineers and analytics engineers, driving the design, development, and delivery of scalable data pipelines and analytics solutions. You will work closely with product and domain experts to ensure the platform meets the highest standards of data quality, consistency, and governance, while enabling innovative data-driven insights for customers.
Key Responsibilities
You''ll lead, manage, and develop the Data Engineering team through all stages of project delivery.
Oversee the design and implementation of scalable, modern data pipelines and platforms.
Collaborate with product and engineering stakeholders to align technical delivery with strategic objectives
Ensure best practices in data governance, quality, and compliance are consistently applied
Provide technical leadership and foster a culture of collaboration, innovation, and professional growth - with the opportunity to scale and grow the team over time.
Requirements
Proven experience managing and developing high-performing software/data engineering teams.
Strong technical expertise in data engineering and modern pipeline tools (dbt, Airflow, Kafka, etc.)
Proficiency in SQL and experience with at least one programming language (Python, Java, or Scala)
Hands-on experience leading teams of engineers working with cloud data platforms (Snowflake, Redshift, BigQuery, or equivalent)
Strong understanding of data governance, security, and compliance standards
Experience with AI/ML platforms or generative AI technologies will be advantageous.
LocationBelfast (Hybrid, 2-3 days per week on-site)
Salary
Up to £85,000 with 10% bonus. Wider benefits include enhanced holiday allowance, private medical, critical illness and wider well-being benefits.
