Engineering Manager
About the role
The Maintenance Manager will lead CBRE''s engineering and maintenance operation at Twickenham Stadium. The postholder will be accountable for the whole engineering team and for the safe, compliant and reliable delivery of planned, reactive and lifecycle maintenance across all building services, while also acting as the site''s mechanical technical authority.
This is a senior, site-based leadership role. We would prefer candidates with a mechanical engineering background, given the scale and criticality of the stadium''s mechanical plant. However, the role is not limited to mechanical services: the successful candidate will lead, organise and develop the engineering team across all disciplines, establish consistent maintenance standards, improve visibility of compliance and asset risk, and support safe, reliable event delivery within this complex, high-footfall venue.
What will you deliver?
- Lead and manage the site engineering and maintenance team as a whole, acting as the primary point of escalation for maintenance matters and the technical authority for mechanical engineering at Twickenham Stadium.
- Lead and maintain engineering and maintenance standards, procedures, assurance reviews and lessons learned across all disciplines.
- Provide specialist mechanical leadership across HVAC, heating and cooling systems, boilers, chillers, pumps, ventilation, BMS controls, pressure systems, water systems, gas systems and associated mechanical plant.
- Oversee maintenance delivery across electrical services, fire and life-safety systems, lifts and building fabric, working with electrical Authorised Persons and specialist contractors to ensure safe and compliant outcomes.
- Ensure critical building services systems and assets remain safe, compliant, available and resilient, with minimal operational or event disruption.
- Own the planned, reactive and lifecycle maintenance programme, including workload planning, resource allocation, quality of completion, accurate records and appropriate technical outcomes.
- Monitor CAFM data, asset registers, maintenance schedules, statutory records and compliance evidence to identify gaps and emerging risk.
- Work with the Permit Manager to maintain effective Safe Systems of Work, Permit to Work arrangements, engineering procedures and technical control measures.
Key responsibilities
- Line manage, lead, coach and support the multi-disciplinary engineering team, including rota planning, workload allocation, one-to-ones, performance reviews and attendance management, to deliver safe, efficient and reliable outcomes.
- Manage day-to-day maintenance operations, including PPM scheduling, reactive task allocation, SLA performance and close-out quality within the CAFM.
- Provide assurance on statutory and contractual compliance, escalating significant risks and overdue actions to senior stakeholders.
- Govern Authorised Person and Responsible Person arrangements, including appointments, competency records, succession planning and periodic reviews.
- Lead the technical audit programme at Twickenham Stadium, issuing clear findings, prioritised actions and evidence-based closure requirements.
- Maintain the engineering team competency matrix across all disciplines and support training, development and professional standards across the team.
- Provide assurance on water risk assessments, written schemes, monitoring arrangements, Water Safety Group governance and Legionella remedial actions.
- Coordinate pre-event engineering assurance, including critical plant checks, heating, cooling and electrical readiness, resilience testing and post-event reviews.
- Lead investigations into technical incidents, recurring failures, non-conformances and event-impacting defects, ensuring root-cause actions are completed.
- Support asset condition surveys, criticality reviews, five-year lifecycle plans and prioritised capital investment proposals.
- Challenge contractor technical submissions, quotations, remedial proposals, RAMS, commissioning evidence and handover documentation.
- Contribute to procurement, mobilisation, change control and project delivery, ensuring technical requirements are embedded from the outset.
- Build effective relationships with Managers, Project Manager, Engineering Managers, site teams, clients and contractors.
- Produce concise monthly reporting covering compliance, audit delivery, critical risks, asset reliability, event readiness, lifecycle priorities and improvement actions.
- Participate in emergency escalation and on-call arrangements, providing proportionate technical support when required.
- Champion CBRE values, ethical conduct, inclusion, safety leadership, environmental responsibility and a positive engineering culture.
- Undertake additional reasonable duties aligned with the scope and seniority of the role.
