Engineering Geologist
Engineering Geologist
Manchester | -30,000 - -40,000
If you''re an Engineering Geologist who enjoys getting out on site, working with real ground conditions and seeing projects through from investigation to interpretation, this could be a good next move.
A specialist ground engineering consultancy is looking to add an Engineering Geologist to its Manchester team. The role offers the chance to work on a varied mix of ground investigation projects across the North West, with plenty of opportunity to build your technical experience rather than getting stuck doing the same thing week in, week out.
What you''ll be doing
You''ll be involved throughout the ground investigation process, from planning and site work through to logging, interpretation and reporting.
Your work is likely to include:
- Planning and undertaking ground investigations
- Site supervision of drilling and trial pitting
- Cable percussion, rotary and window sampling investigations
- Logging soil and rock to recognised engineering standards
- Soil and rock sampling
- Groundwater and gas monitoring
- Producing factual and interpretative ground investigation reports
- Developing ground models and interpreting geological conditions
- Reviewing laboratory and field testing results
- Supporting geotechnical assessments and design teams
- Liaising with clients, contractors and other consultants
- Helping to manage projects, programmes and site activities
You''ll get exposure to a good range of projects, from urban redevelopment and infrastructure through to commercial developments and more complex ground conditions across Manchester and the wider North West.
What we''re looking for
You''ll ideally have a degree in Geology, Engineering Geology or a closely related subject, along with some commercial experience in engineering geology or ground investigation.
We''re particularly interested in people with experience of:
- Site investigation and drilling supervision
- Soil and rock logging
- Ground investigation reporting
- Groundwater monitoring
- Working with contractors and site teams
- Producing factual and interpretative reports
You''ll need to be comfortable spending time on site, have good attention to detail and be able to communicate well with clients and contractors.
A full UK driving licence is essential, and chartership or an interest in working towards it would be beneficial.
Why this role?
The big attraction here is the variety.
You''ll be working for a specialist consultancy where engineering geology is central to what they do, rather than being a small part of a much larger multidisciplinary business. You''ll get genuine exposure to the investigation side of projects and the opportunity to develop into a well-rounded Engineering Geologist.
There''s also plenty of scope to take on more responsibility as you progress, whether that''s managing investigations, developing client relationships or becoming more involved in the technical side of projects.
What''s on offer?
- -30,000 - -40,000, depending on experience
- Manchester-based role
- Varied ground investigation projects across the North West
- Strong technical development
- Opportunity to work towards chartership
- Increasing responsibility as you progress
- Supportive and experienced technical team
- A good balance of site and office-based work
- Long-term career progression
